Will there be a direct train from Belper/Duffield to London from december 2008?

The current timetable shows the 0903 (MF) St Pancras and its Saturday equivalent no longer calling at Belper from Mon 8th Sept & these calls are not in the new timetable. EMT's view is that the branch hourly service from Dec (excepting Cromford & Whatstandwell of course) plus better connections at Derby will compensate for this withdrawal of the through service.

There has also been talk (& it is only talk) about the possibility of reinstating a Matlock-London service when the underline bridges are strengthened to cope with Meridians. - Geoff Errington

I've just seen proposed timetable on this website. I travel each day from Belper to Nottingham and am shocked to see the arrival time at Notts for 0737? from Matlock. How can this possibly be good for Notts commuters?. Why does the train need to dwell for 13 mins in Derby? I hope EMT reconsider this timetable.

This is one of the services in the draft timetable that FDVL have commented on to EMT. I'll ask Ian Ambrose, our chairman, to let you know what the latest situation is - Geoff Errington, Webmaster

Just reading the notes from the last meeting... the proposal not to stop and Whatstandwell and Cromford is not a good one.. On the 7:42 am service from Cromford there are +10 people using the train. Can EMT publish traffic numbers by Station, then the business case has substance. Keep up the pressure on EMT. Robin

Thanks for info. Your request has been passed on to FDVL Chairman Ian Ambrose & Alastair Morley of DVCRP. Rest assured, the stopping pattern at these 2 stations will be a main focus of our dealings with EMT this year - Geoff Errington

Hi
I can't wait for the service to run through from Belper to Notts. I just hope they get the times right so workers can arrive in Notts at a reasonable time and leave work at a reasonable time. The current wait at Derby must put many people off. Any chance of the Meridians every running on the tline?

- As below, we hope to get the final draft timetable from EMT around July, so times to / from Nottingham & connections for elsewhere should then be clear. Works are scheduled to strengthen 3 underline bridges on the branch in 2008 / 09 which will allow Meridians on the branch, for any future through services. - Geoff Errington.

Yet again Stagecoach have played a slight of hand, now telling us that not all trains will stop at Whatstandwell and Cromford, what next a single car class 153 cattle truck? well done EMT and FotDWL stand up and be counted...

- We are keeping the pressure on EMT over the stopping pattern & have asked for a review as soon as the next draft version of the timetable is available around July. - Geoff Errington

I wondered if there were any further developments with the parking at Matlock station? I was a regular rail user but the decision to effectively double the price of my journey has driven me the car to commute to Derby.
there was talk of the franchise off-setting the costs against my fare but I have heard nothing since about that

- Will forward your query to our committee member(s) who live in Matlock & who have been watching this situation. There is a meeting with East Midlands Trains on Tues 1st April & am sure that this will be on the agenda. Geoff Errington

what happened to the connection with Peak Rail at Matlock?

- Network Rail have laid a loop at the north end of Matlock station for use by national rail services, which terminates near the Peak Rail Riverside station. I understand that it will be the responsibility of Peak Rail to connect into the end of this loop & ultimately run into the west side platform at Matlock. Peak Rail may be able to advise you more on this this.
